Sophie Musgrove is a National Geographic Explorer and an award-winning documentary Director based in New Zealand. Her most recent international series on climate change, Dynamic Planet (PBS, SKY, NHNZ Worldwide), earned her the title of Best Documentary Director at the 2024 New Zealand Television Awards and won Best Factual Series at the Silbersalz Science and Media Awards 2024. The series was nominated for Best Non-Fiction Environmental and Natural History at RealScreen 2025 and Best Science Program at the WCSFP Buzzies.

With a strong focus on indigenous stories, Sophie has built an extensive and intimate network of contacts across six continents. Her expertise has made her highly sought after for ambitious international factual documentary series for platforms such as PBS, BBC, Netflix, Amazon Prime, and Discovery.

Sophie has received a National Geographic Explorer Grant to make a documentary on the Manatees in Florida. Exploring the most urgent threat facing manatees’ survival as a species - the looming retirement of the state’s coal-fired power plants.
